Bathroom organization can be a tricky thing since clutter and mess can easily take over the area, leaving us feeling overwhelmed and disorganized.

If you experience this at home, these tips will help you start your bathroom organization.

How to Organize your Bathroom

Knowing where to start organizing the bathroom can be hard because there’s just so much stuff.

Don’t worry. Organizing doesn’t have to be overwhelming – it’s quite simple when broken into smaller tasks.

The first step you will need to do before you organize your bathroom is to declutter and get rid of everything you don’t need or won’t be needing anymore.

After all, a cluttered bathroom can be both an eyesore and a source of stress.

Imagine waking up in the morning and going to a messy bathroom — that is absolutely not the best way to start the day.

3 Steps to Take Before You Organize

Organizing your bathroom is no small task. It can be scary if you don’t know what to do or where everything goes.

There’s a way that makes organizing easier – even for people with limited experience! The three steps below will help you start the process so it feels less intimidating than ever before:

Step #1. Gather up the Trash

The best way to eliminate clutter is to start with the trash.

First, start by getting a trash bag to hold all of the garbage easily. Trash items to look for are:

  • Empty bottles of shampoo or other hair care products
  • Old razors
  • Outdated makeup and skin care
  • Lotions you don’t use
  • Broken bath toys
  • Old loofahs
  • Anything that is used up, dried out, or broken

Then take stock around every corner: if there’s anything obvious you can throw away right now, do so without hesitation.

Step #2. Gather up any recyclables

As you did on the first step, get yourself a bag and start collecting and looking for any materials that can be recycled.

If you think about keeping an item “just in case,” know that this is not the best time to be unsure of what should stay and go.

You are going through a clutter jumpstart phase; for these reasons alone, all items need your immediate attention, so get rid of anything that isn’t necessary or wanted.

Step #3. Gather up Anything that Needs to Be Put Away

For the last step, arm yourself with a basket and gather up anything you see that does not belong. This may include dirt clothes that should be in the laundry area, toys that belong in the playroom, and other items that may have been left behind.

Once you have everything gathered, take a few minutes to sort through the area again to make sure you don’t miss anything.

When the coast is clear of clutter, put the items you have gathered up where they belong. I like to walk my home, basket in hand, putting items away as I go.

Before we start to organize the bathroom, finish up by putting anything else that is still lying out all the way away.

Here are a few ideas:

• Put makeup in the drawer

• Put clothes in the laundry basket

• Put toothbrushes in the holder

• Put tub toys in the hanging basket

Now we are ready to start organizing your bathroom. Let’s talk about a few ideas that work great in this small yet busy space.

Install shelves and baskets to organize your belongings.

Anyone who has ever had to search for a missing shampoo bottle in a messy bathroom knows that organization is key to a functional and stress-free space.

One way to achieve this is by installing shelves and baskets to store hair products and other toiletries.

This not only makes it easy to find what you need, but it also helps to keep the bathroom looking neat and tidy.

In addition, shelves and baskets can be used to group similar items together, making it even easier to find what you need and organize your things all the way away.

For example, all of your toiletries can be stored in one basket, while another basket can be used for cleaning supplies.

By taking the time to organize your bathroom, you can make your life a lot easier—and help prevent clutter headaches due to bathroom items that are just lying on the counter.

Let’s see it in action.

  1. Keep extra toilet paper in a basket on a shelf over the toilet area. This will help you to restock quickly whenever things run low.
  1. Keep bath toys organized in a hanging container out of the way. This will help you to take a shower without dodging a tub full of toys.
  2. Keep a hanging shower head organizer to hold hair care products, body wash, soap, and bath sponges.
  3. Keep a basket on a shelf to hold extra towels.
  4. Keep a basket on the sink to hold floss, toothpaste, and mouthwash.

Use unique items to organize bathroom accessories.

When organizing the bathroom, why not consider using items from other areas in the home? Just because an item works create in a pantry, for example, doesn’t mean it won’t work just as well in a bathroom.

1. A magnetic board.

This may be a unique approach to organizing a bathroom, but if you are short on space and have a large family, this might be the solution you are looking for.

There are many holders that you can find in the office supply section of a store. A magnetic pen holder, for example, will work great to hold toothbrushes and toothpaste. Keep things on a magnetic knife bar, and you free up quite a bit of space near the bathroom sink.

You can do the same with razors, brushes, combs, and other small items.

2. A lazy Susan

I love lazy Susans and use them all over my home. They work great in a bathroom because it allows you to hold a collection of random items, yet you can see everything easily.

You can keep a small lazy Susan on the sink to hold ear swabs, cotton balls, mouthwash, floss, and other items.

You can also use one to hold hair care products, face creams, saving supplies, makeup, or medicines.

3. Cake tray

This is another unique and super fun item to use when organizing a bathroom. I love the 2-tiered trays as they give you double the storage.

You can keep makeup and face creams on the top tier and hair care products below.

4. Magazine holder

Another great office item that works wonders in a bathroom. You can install a magazine holder onto the inside of the door below your sink. Use this to hold curling irons, straight irons, or blow dryers.

You can also install one near the toilet to hold magazines.

4. Mason jars

I love reusing common items to organize things in a unique way, and mason jars are at the top of that list.

How do you store things in the bathroom?

There are many different ways to store things in the bathroom, and finding the right method for you will depend on the size and layout of your space, as well as your personal preferences.

A few popular methods are using towel racks to store towels, hooks to hold clothes, or towel rings to hold hand towels for drying up. The trick is to install the tool you need to organize close to where you will use the items.

• A towel rack will work best near the shower or tub.

• A hook will work best on the door.

• A towel ring will work best near the bathroom sink.

If you have the space, you can invest in a free-standing heated towel rack. This will give you a warm cozy towel after every shower.

If you still have items that need a home, you may want to invest in a bathroom cabinet. You can install one on a free wall or over the toilet.

Don’t forget about using baskets and bins to organize. These work great in a bathroom and can hold a variety of items, including:

  • hair care products
  • face creams
  • shaving supplies
  • teeth care
  • cleaning supplies
  • extra toilet paper

Finally, hooks are another item that works great in a bathroom. They can be used to hold items such as clothes, robes, or towels. Hooks are a great way to save space, and they can be easily installed on the wall or door.

Whichever storage method you choose, make sure to measure the area before purchasing any items so that you can find the perfect fit for your bathroom.

Use drawer dividers to separate items.

Few things are more frustrating than digging through a cluttered drawer and searching for your favorite hair clip. So if you struggle with unorganized piles of makeup, hair products, and other items, you may want to invest in these amazing organizing solutions.

Drawer dividers are an easy and affordable way to organize your bathroom. They come in a variety of sizes and styles so that you can find the perfect solution for your space.

With drawer dividers, you can separate your makeup from your hair products or divide items by how often you use them.

The dividers use tension to hold them in place, but this also means you can easily move them around, ensuring you have enough space for each category of the item you are organizing.

Place a waste bin next to the sink for easy disposal of trash.

One of the most important things everyone can do to help keep their bathroom clean is to have a wastebasket next to the sink.

This makes it easy to toss any trash in rather than leaving it lying where it is and stopping clutter from building up on the countertop.

Easy access to a waste bin can also encourage family members to keep the space clean and help create a more organized and inviting bathroom.

Keep cleaning supplies in a designated spot.

The bathroom is one of the most commonly used rooms in the house, so it’s important to keep it clean and organized.

One way to do this is to designate a spot for all your cleaning supplies. This way, they’ll always be within reach when you need them.

You can use a cabinet, shelf, or even a basket to hold everything you use to clean this room. You may also choose a spot close to the sink and toilet so you won’t have to go far to get what you need.

I like to use a bucket to hold our cleaning supplies; this makes it super easy for me to clean the bathroom in just a few minutes whenever I see a mess.

A well-organized bathroom can help reduce stress and make your morning routine more efficient.
